Currículum

Currículum breu

My interest has always been in how the human body is organized and regulates all the procedures that are needed to live. This was one of the main reasons I became a Medical doctor. Understanding how something can affect the health and wellbeing of humans and the study of the physiopathology of disease has always fascinated me. This encouraged me to specialize in internal medicine so that I would be able to continue to understand wide broad aspects of human disease.

I have been always fascinated by proteomics and how protein alterations have an impact in human health. This is the reason why I involved in the transthyretin amyloidosis study field. Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (hATTR) is a rare, multisystem disease caused by amyloid deposition, characterized by heterogeneous presentation and symptomatology. Due to its heterogeneity and rarity there are still a lot of open questions that need to be resolved before completing the knowledge of this disease. Then, I decided to involve myself in trying to gain knowledge of this disease and I started working on my PhD in TTR amyloidosis (ATTR). I have the luck to work as a physician in a teaching hospital leading TTR management in my country. This allowed me to be involved in the health care of ATTR patients, which has allowed me to acquire enough experience to ask me questions related to this disease that needs to be answered. During my career I have also improved my clinical and scientific skills, learned new techniques and produced quality data that have been published in several peer-review journals.

To gain further insight into the field of ATTR medicine, I have participated in several internships including a visit to a reference center in transthyretin amyloidosis, where I got a view of the organisation of a medical centre specialized in the field.

Some of my qualities as investigator are creativity and dedication, as well as I´m my toughest critic. Through my experience, I have become well versed in conducting research and analyzing data in a detailed and scientific manner. Additionally, I have gained the ability to integrate superior organization and communication skills across all levels of research, allowing me to work in both independent and team-oriented environments.
